We had a great time in Wyoming a couple of weeks ago! Unfortunately, we came home to find that out computer had crashed. No computer.... no blogging... and no pics. We still haven't had a chance to get all of the pics but I'm going to tell you a bit about our trip for now.
I took Friday off and picked Katelyn up from school at lunch. The ride up was great! We took a detour through the Bridger Valley and it was beautiful with all the fall leaves on the trees. Some of the highlights for Kate along the way.... striped cows, windmills, oil rigs, and "why is the ground green?" Just past Rock Springs, we sent our friend Kandice a text saying the drive would be great if we weren't stuck behind this stupid bus. She texted us back to tell us her brother-in-law was on that bus. We let them catch up long enough for them to honk and us to wave Kate's hoodie back at them. Somewhere through there we ran into a bit of snow.
We finally got to Laramie around 7:00. (It was probably a good time I didn't check to see how far it was before I said I would love to go!) We checked into our room at the AmericInn (which, by the way, I would highly recommend if you ever find yourself in Laramie). When we got to our room, we found it had been raided by a Cowboy, a.k.a. Kandice. I'm still not sure what she told them to get her to let them in, but the ability to persuade could be a little scary in the wrong hands. Anyway, she had left us some very cool Wyoming souvenirs, including a couple of shirts. Katelyn changed into hers immediately and we headed over to Kandice's parents for dinner before heading over to the Laramie High game. It was cold and they lost but it was still fun to spend some time with her family. Taylor and Katelyn became good friends quickly!
Saturday morning was beautiful! We went to their homecoming parade and got to see Matt and Kaylee ride in "the bus" in the parade. More questions from Kate, including.... "What is a fraternity and what does their house look like?" Afterwards, we hunted down the bus to get a few pics with everyone by the bus before heading to the game.
When we got to the game, we found the perfect parking spot, only to be told that it was private parking? Really, I wanted to ask, would it be private if I had Wyoming plates? The first half of the game was still beautiful and the Wyoming fans were much nicer than I had been told. I've decided they don't hate people from Utah, they hate Cougar fans from Utah. We had come expecting rain and snow so we were prepared. We didn't have either of those but the winds sure kicked up just before the 2nd half. Garbage was flying everywhere and I even lost my hat. Of course, our UTES won!!! Secretly, I kinda like Wyoming now. Shhhhh! Don't tell anyone. They might take my red card away!
The fun must have wiped Katelyn out because we went back to the hotel and she took a nice long nap. I couldn't even get her to wake up enough to go with everyone to the volleyball game that night. Sunday we went to church with Kandice's family before making the very long drive back to Utah through accidents, more snow, a drive by the big green barn, and more striped cows! Lucky for us, the next week was a short one because of Fall Break! Thanks go to Kandice, Matt, and all their family for making this weekend so much fun for us!!!
P.S. Kandice is not only our friend, but she has been the YW pres in our ward. When I dropped Katelyn off to go to camp last year, she looked like a deer in the headlights. Thanks to Kandice, that lasted about 30 seconds. When they decorated Kate's room to welcome her to WY, Kandice managed to find some gold crepe paper and taped a W on her wall. It lasted for over a year and only came down because we were planning to paint. Anyway, a week after our Wyoming trip, Kandice was released, making me even more grateful for our trip. The memories and her example will last Kate a lifetime!!!
